Update and 2016 Race Plans

As many of you already know, I was selected to be a member of the Maverick Multisports Pro Team for 2016.  This opportunity is a big step forward for me in my career.

After my last two races of 2015, I came away recognizing several areas that I need to focus on.  So far, January has been a lot of lower intensity, zone 2 work in all three sports, focusing on mechanics and technique.  At the same time, I have been basically living at the gym lifting weights and doing core work. The weather in Tucson has been magnificent and I have been able to get outside and ride a lot! Here is a picture from one of Tucson’s most well know mountain passes (Gates Pass).

I am also excited to go to a team camp in February down in Florida.  I will share updates and photos while I am there with you.  Who said Pro triathlete’s can’t live it up sometimes?  Looks like we are headed to Club Med! When I get back I will be going to the wind tunnel in Scottsdale to improve the overall aerodynamics of my bike setup.

While I have many big goals this year, I’m setting my sights on the start line of the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.  For professional triathletes, you accumulate points to get to Kona (unlike for amateurs where you qualify by placing in the top of your age group).  Last year, the amount of points that qualified Pros to get to Kona was at least 3440.  This year, with the reduced amount of qualifying races, it might take slightly less.

Right now, I have 635 points and am ranked 102nd.   The better you do in races, the more points you accumulate.  It is kind of confusing, but check out this website if you want to know more: Ironman Pro Qualifying

These are the tentative races I have planned for 2016 to get the points needed to be on the start line at the Ironman World Championships … it sure will be a difficult task but an incredible journey!
